Paul Farbrace, the former assistant coach of England, has disclosed that the prominent fast bowler, Jofra Archer, is making good progress in his recovery and is expected to participate in this year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
Archer played a crucial part in guiding England to their maiden World Cup victory by defeating New Zealand in an exciting final in the latest 50-over showcase held in 2019. During the tournament, the talented right-arm fast bowler took an impressive 20 wickets, placing him among the top wicket-takers of the event.
However, Archer has faced a series of injuries over the past few years. The 28-year-old last represented his country during the white-ball tours of South Africa and Bangladesh earlier this year. Unfortunately, in May, he experienced a back injury that led to his absence from the ongoing Ashes series against Australia.
Despite these challenges, Farbrace, who is currently coaching Archer at the County side Sussex and played a pivotal role in England’s white-ball setup before their victorious World Cup campaign in 2019, expressed optimism about Archer’s recovery. According to Farbrace, the towering fast bowler is progressing well and is expected to participate in this year’s tournament in India.
Since his appearance against India in Ahmedabad in 2021, Archer hasn’t played a Test match for England. Nonetheless, Farbrace is confident in the abilities of the right-arm fast bowler and believes he has what it takes to represent his country across all three formats.
However, Farbrace acknowledges that for Archer to overcome his persistent injury concerns and maintain his fitness in the long run, England must strategize a plan that helps him stay in good shape.
“He is progressing well,” Farbrace remarked.
“I believe England will need to devise a plan to optimize his performance in the coming years if he is to be a part of the next Ashes series (in 2025).”
