Yankees pitcher entering treatment for alcohol abuse

New York Yankees pitcher Domingo German "has today voluntarily agreed to submit to inpatient treatment for alcohol abuse".

The team provided this information while giving a statement on Wednesday.

New York Yankees pitcher Domingo German will be placed on the restricted list.

The Yankees said, "It is important that Domingo focus solely on his health and wellness.

According to the Yankees, "we will respect his privacy as he begins this process."

GM Brian Cashman said at a Wednesday night press conference that German had thrown his 24th perfect game in baseball in June.

"He's dealing with the most important issues in front of him right now," Cashman said.

Cashman said that German's struggle with alcohol is "something he's had to deal with in the past,"

German did not participate in the majors in 2020 after serving a one-game suspension for violating MLB's domestic violence policy.
