Sumo wrestler Hidetora Hanada from Japan to play college football for Colorado State

The Colorado State Rams will add a unique player to their roster, a sumo wrestling champion from Japan.

Sumo wrestler Hidetora Hanada announced in Tokyo on Tuesday that he would be joining the Rams, according to The Japan Times.

Hidetora Hanada also announced his engagement on Instagram.

Hidetora Hanada made his first football action in March 2022 when he participated in X League trials.

Reportedly, Hanada made the country's national roster and has received interest from schools such as Texas and Ohio State.

Colorado State confirmed to the media that Hanada would join the team, but that he has not yet arrived in the US.

Hidetora Hanada will join the Rams as a junior and will have two seasons of eligibility.

"I will be the only Japanese player and be surrounded by people who speak different languages," Hanada told The Japan Times.
