Megan Rapinoe skips her final Women's World Cup after a long career.

Megan Rapinoe wanted a different memorable ending to her final Women's World Cup.

Even after the disappointing loss, she was grateful for her highly successful performance with the US national team.

Megan Rapinoe's World Cup career ended in the round of 16 on Sunday.

Rapinoe announced last month that this would be her last international tournament.

Megan Rapinoe said that "I wish we were moving forward and I could get guaranteed championships and so on."

Megan Rapinoe broke down while talking to reporters after the match.

"I'm open to working in many ways," she said. "I feel at peace with it. So it's sad but I'm okay."

Captain Lindsey Horan and defender Julie Ertz hug Rapinoe after the loss to Sweden.
