Jamaica has extra reason to celebrate after their success in the Women's World Cup.

Jamaica played out a 0–0 draw with Brazil and advanced to the last 16 of the Women's World Cup.

Jamaica's "reggae girlz" on Sunday gave their tiny island nation more reason to celebrate its upcoming Independence Day.

Jamaica's sports minister, Olivia Grange, described Wednesday's performance as "undoubtedly the proudest moment ever in Jamaican football history". 

Grange reacted minutes after Jamaica ended Brazil's World Cup hopes.

"I couldn't help but shed a few tears, which are tears of joy," Grange said on Instagram.

The Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness, posted, "Historic!" On Facebook, "Jamaica! best in the world."

The Jamaican Football Federation also reacted with "literally tears in our eyes".

Amidst this celebration, some fans took the opportunity to criticize the lack of financial support.
