Injured Tamim Iqbal relinquishes Bangladesh captaincy to miss Asia Cup 2023

Bangladesh captain and opener Tamim Iqbal will not play in Asia Cup 2023.

Tamim Iqbal has decided to step down as Bangladesh ODI captain after being ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 due to injury.

"I will step down as captain and concentrate as a player," Tamim said during a press conference on Thursday.

Last time Tamim Iqbal took back his decision to retire after the intervention of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The new captain for the Asia Cup 2023 has not yet been appointed by the Bangladesh cricket team.

Opener Liton Das can take over the captaincy after Tamim is ruled out of the series. 

The BCB official said that the name of the new ODI captain will be decided at the appropriate time.
