Former first-round pick, two-time Super Bowl champ retires at 28
Two-time Super Bowl champion Sony Michel has decided to retire.
Sony Michel has decided to retire on the opening weekend of training camp with the Los Angeles Rams.
Coach Sean McVay announced Mitchell's decision to retire after the third practice of camp for the Rams on Saturday.
Coach McVay said they had a conversation Saturday morning in which Mitchell informed the team of his decision.
McVay said, "What an amazing career this guy has had." "The epitome of a professional, a great competitor, and his next chapter is going to be exciting."
Mitchell, 28, was entering his sixth NFL season following a four-year college career.
Mitchell was selected in the first round in 2018 by the Patriots.
Mitchell scored the only touchdown in their 13–3 victory over the Rams in Super Bowl 53.
