There are many similarities between KL Rahul and his namesake player Rahul Dravid i.i, both players are technically sound, are solid top-order batsmen from Karnataka, are capable of playing long innings, and adept at keeping wickets in a crunch. In his short First-Class career in cricket, KL Rahul has already established himself as a big-innings player, averaging well over 50.

Having impressed at the Under-19 team level for team India, KL Rahul was further rewarded for his consistency in the Karnataka team with a slot in India’s Test team in Australia, year 2014-15.

Playing the third Test at MCG, KL Rahul was guilty of playing three unusual rash shots across two innings, batting at Number 06 and Number 03. He was dropped once and dismissed early twice. Thankfully, afterwards the selectors persisted with him: opening batting in the next Test at SCG, KL Rahul responded with 110.

But despite his immense promise KL Rahul has shown a worrying tendency to get out early again. This can be justified by the fact that he scored two centuries in his first five Tests, but got to double figures only once apart from those innings.

Also an excellent close-in fielder and more than handy wicketkeeper, Rahul is definitely a long-term prospect for India if he can sort out his inconsistencies.
