Rene Farrell

Originally from New South Wales, Farrell’s unique brand of in-swing bowling has proved the undoing of batters all over the world since she made her international debut in 2007. Farrell began her domestic career at the Lendlease Breakers, where she played a key role in the side’s 2006-07 premiership, taking 3-27 off 10 overs and surviving at the death to see NSW home with one wicket to spare in the final. The then 22-year-old joined the ACT Meteors in 2009 following the side’s introduction to the Women’s National Cricket League and played in every match of their debut season – picking up 18 wickets at an average of 21.44. Farrell was also a part of Australia's side that reclaimed the Ashes in 2011, picking up 2-32 and 5-23 in the series’ lone Test match, including a hat-trick in the second innings.  She made the move back to the NSW Breakers for the 2015-16 WNCL season, helping the team to the final before going on to win the inaugural WBBL title with the Sydney Thunder. Announcing her retirement at the end of the 2019/20 season, Farrell won her first Belinda Clark Medal in her final season of professional cricket.

Farrell’s hat-trick against England was just the third by a female cricketer in Test cricket.
