The stadium is the home ground of the Odisha cricket team and is managed by the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA). Additionally, the stadium serves as a venue for the Santosh Trophy national football tournament and Odisha First Division League football matches.

It staged its first international match in January 1982, when India defeated England in a one-day international and won the series 2-1.
